OpenGL is a powerful 3D graphics API for Windows 95/NT, UNIX - based systems.

ARTLab was contracted to develop the brand identity and market penetration of OpenGL using the Internet and to transform the OpenGL web site from a static information-only site into a dynamic marketing and development resource for OpenGL developers and end-users.

  • Developing a new look and feel
  • Updating the site on a daily basis with OpenGL related news, product releases and announcements - targeting story types to nudge the market in specific directions.
  • Compiling and assembling development resources
  • Tracking surfing patterns to adjust the site and tailor information
  • Working with developers & consumers to place OpenGL.org logos/links on their site
  • Contacting new developers to incent them to support OpenGL
  • Adding search, surveys/polls, discussion forums and contests to build a user community.
  • Banner advertising for funding and as an incentive tool for developers
  • Handling all email from developers and consumers

In the year since ARTLab was contracted, traffic on OpenGL.org grew from less than a 50 page views per day to an average of 20,000 page views a day. In that same period, other web sites hosting the OpenGL logo and referencing OpenGL.org grew from less than 20 to more than 1000.

More importantly, as a result of the increased OpenGL awareness, ISV and IHV support for OpenGL has shifted from flat implementation rates to dramatic growth (estimated at 660% for 1998 and significantly higher for 1999)

Moreover due to the interest generated by OpenGL.org and developer contacts, OpenGL is now being actively embraced on the Macintosh, Linux and embedded systems (as well as UNIX and Win32)
